      Tewkesbury’s Alleys in 1848.

              At a meeting of the Commissioners of Tewkesbury streets held on the 25th of February,1848, H.E.Strickland, Esq. the mayor, in the chair; Messrs. Lewis and Bennett, the committee appointed to ascertain the customary names of the Streets, Lanes, Ways, Passages and Places,within the borough,many of which have been from various causes subject to change and uncertainty, reported the same to be as follows:-

       High Street.

              Station Street. From the Railway Station to the Middle Road.


       Resolved unanimously,that the foregoing list of Streets, Lanes, Ways, Passages and Places, be printed, for the guidance and convenience of present and future parish officers and others; and as the names of the principal Streets are already conspicuously exhibited, that those of the smaller Streets, Lanes, Alleys, &c. be forthwith lettered on strong zinc plates,in plain Roman characters, and securely fastened over or on the side of one at least of the respective entrances to the same.
