From the Jubilee History of the Gloucester Co-operative Industrial Society Limited. 1910.

1880. Efforts were being made at this time to establish a society at Tewkesbury and delegates were sent from Gloucester to help with its formation. Soon after the Tewkesbury people asked for advice in the management of their own Society and Messrs. Clay and Wylie were deputed to visit them. They brought back a report which was said to be not at all favourable, and the secretary was instructed to ask if they would like a deputation from this Society to attend their quarterly meeting.

********************

The Society recently started at Tewkesbury finding itself in difficulties applied to the Gloucester Society to be taken over as a branch. The committee felt themselves unable to do this, but recommended to the memebers at he following February meeting, 1886, that a branch be opened there. This it was decided to do and the stock and fixtures were taken over from the Tewkesbury Society , which was wound up. Business was started up in the late Society's shop in Barton Street and a fair trade was soon done.

********************

The present shop, 114 High Street, Tewkesbury, was purchased in March of 1891, and after alterations the business was transferred from the old premises in Barton Street. A bakehouse and stable were erected on the newly purchased property and the bread supply undertaken locally. Previously the bread had been from Cheltenham by road.

There is a discrepancy here. The photograph gives the impression that the branch at 114 High Street opened in 1886.

This was the date when the Tewkesbury branch, in Barton Street became a branch of the Gloucester Society.

The text states that the move to 114 High Street, shown in the photograph, did not take place uintil 1891.
