In the name of God amen the one and twentieth day of August Anno Ind. one thousand six hundred and twenty six, I John Harding of Tewkesbury in the county of Gloucester, brewer, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be unto almighty god therefore, yet well considering ---- myself the frailty of this mortal life wherein I live, and being desirous to settle that worldly estate wherewith god in his mercy hath blessed me, that no contention may arise thereabouts after my death, I do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament in writing in manner and form following. First, I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty god, my only saviour and redeemer, hoping assuredly by the merits, death and passion of his son Jesus Christ to be made partaker of his heavenly kingdom, and my body to the earth from whence it came. Item, I give and bequeath forty shillings to ten poor householders within the town of Tewkesbury to be distributed by the two bailiffs of the said town for the time being and also by two of the justices of the peace within the same town. All the rest of my goods, chattels, -----, plate, ready money and household stuff after my debts payed and funeral expenses discharged I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Harding whom I make the sole and only executor of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby revoke, make void and -------- all former and other wills whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal the day and year first above written.
