Last Will and Testament of Lydia Taylor of Tewkesbury. Widow.

This is the Last Will and Testament of me, Lydia Taylor of Tewkesbury in the county of Gloucester, widow, to wit. first I will and direct that all my debts and funeral expenses shall be paid and satisfied. And I give to my cousin Mr. John Redman my clock diamond ring, blue enamelled ring, white cornelian ring, my late father's ----- and my locket set with gold, to be delivered to him on demand at any time after my decease. Also I give to the said John Redman the sum of fifty pounds to be paid him at the end of six months next after my death. Also I give and so devise to him, the said John Redman, his heirs and assigns ------ or grounds belonging to me whereon several messuages or tenements with their appurtenances on Old Fish Street ------ in Distaff Lane-------------- or elsewhere in the City of London or the suburbs thereeof now stand and be, and all my estate, right, title and interest of, in or to such messuages or tenements with their appurtenances. Also I give to her brothers my godson Mr. George Hayward and Mr. Philip Hayward the sum of fiftty pounds apiece to be paid them at the end of six months next after my death. Also I give to Miss Hayward my white enamelled ring and my testament and common prayer book bound with blue morocco leather and adorned with gold. And in case it shall happen that Miss Hayward shall die before the end of six months next after my death my will is that all I have hereby given to her shall be paid and delivewred to her said brother Philip Hayward to whom I then give the same. Also I give to the said George Hayward my bible bound in five parts and the apochrypha bound separate. Also I give to my servant Mary Lewis in case she shall be living with me at my death but not otherwise, the sum of fifty pounds to be paid at the end of six months next after my death and all my clothes and wearing apparel and a new mourning gown. And also all my books marked with the letters L. T. Also I give to Mary ------, Katherine Giles and Mary King twenty shillings apiece to be paid them at the end of one month next after my decease. Also I give to the poor people whom I constantly relieve, five pounds to be distributed amongst them by, my executors, at such time and in such manner as to them shall seem mete within one month next after my death. Also I give and devise to Mr. Robert Martin, mercer, and Mr. Thomas Watson, staymaker, both of Tewkesbury aforesaid, their heirs and assigns all that my messuage or tenement with the appurtenances situate and being in Tewkesbury aforesaid, in trust to sell and dispose of the same by auction to the best bidder as soon as conveniently may be after my death and pay and apply the money arising by the sale thereof for or towards satisfying the pecuniary legacies hereby given to Miss Hayward and her brothers. Also I give to the said Robert Martin and Thomas Waldron whom I constitute and appoint executors of this my last will and testament the sum of ten pounds apiece provided they prove the same and take the executorship upon them, or if one of them should refuse and the other accept the executorship, I give twenty pounds to him who accepts it as some recompense for the trouble they may have in executing the trusts hereby reposed in them and all my ready money, money at interest and all the rest and residue of my goods, chattels and personal estate not hereinbefore disposed of. I give and bequeath unto them, the said Robert Martin and Thomas Watson upon trust as to my household goods, plate, linen, china and all other things fit and proper to be sold, to sell the same immediately after my decease and pay and apply the money arising by sale thereof with all my ready money, money at interest and all the reidue of my personal estate remaining after payment of my funeral expenses, debts, legacies, the charges of proving my will and all other charges incident to or attending the execution of the said trusts in placing out as many poor boys of the parish of Tewkesbury aforesaid apprentices to handicraft trades as the same will be suficient to do and pay five pounds with each boy provided always that my said executors shall be accountable only for so much of the said trust money and estate as they shall acttually receive and not one of them for the other nor for the acts or receipts the one for the other of them nor with or for the ------- of any money hereby directed to be applied for the charitable uses aforesaid and not occasioned by his or their wilful neglect or default and that it shall and may be lawful to and for them the said Robert Martin and Thomas Watson to satisfy and reimburse themselves out of the said trust estate for all trouble, travel costs, charges and expenses which they or either of them shall or may have sustained or be put to in or about executing the trusts hereby reposed in them. And I make it my request of my executors to be handsomely interred in the parish church of Tewkesbury aforesaid in the grave of my first husband and my late mother. And hereby revoking and making null and void all former wills and testamentary dispositions by me at any time made. I declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof to first of these two sheets of paper I have set my hand and to the last of them my hand and seal the first day of December in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and sixty three.
