Two breweries have also closed.

Some of the readers must have been of a record breaking age to remember the closure of some of the licensed houses which closed over one hundred years before the date that the article was written.
The place where you could buy beer by the pound, the Pound House was at the corner of Bredon Road and High Street. The pound referred to the cattle pound nearby. This may have been a nickname as the house was at some time called the Prince of Wales.
